About Specialised Nursing Care

Carinya of Bicton is the first residential care facility in Western Australia to gain accreditation under commonwealth government legislation. This was achieved in September 1999 for the maximum period of 3 years. Passing all 44 outcomes Carinya welcomed the new accreditation process and has an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of aged care.

Carinya has a culture of working with both residents and their families to ensure that we continue to perform at a high level and provide confidence to all parties in our standard of care. Pursuing continuous improvement within the aged care environment is a challenge we welcome and embrace.

About Transitional Care Service

The initiative was designed to provide short term flexible care options for the frail elderly at the interface of the acute/sub acute and residential aged care sector. The program is goal orientated therapy/treatment based programs with the aim to reduce inappropriate extended hospital lengths of stay and reduce premature admission to residential aged care.

Care awaiting placement is funded by the State Health department, & we have been proving this service under the direction of the Health Department since 2001. Frail aged people receive the appropriate care needed while they wait for placement in a residential care facility.

About Aged Care Staffing

As part of the Carinya of Bicton's organizations looking at other avenues to provide the very best care for our ageing population, it was apparent that the standard of agency staff being employed to work as agency staff was in many cases below standard, with limited training and knowledge in the care of frail aged persons.

In 2001 we commenced Aged Care Staffing Agency and provided 1 weeks training prior to staff being given a shift. With the shortage of both trained staff and experienced care staff in aged care we have to be proactive in addressing the problem.

We have grown from strength to strength and have earned an enviable reputation for our unique and professional approach to nursing and care placement.
