Mangoola Coal is based on a large, undeveloped coal reserve of approximately 150 million tonnes (Mt). Mangoola Coal aims to provide a long term, secure and profitable supply of high quality coal, whilst conducting operations in an environmentally responsible manner through the effective management, mitigation and offsetting of environmental impacts.
Mangoola Coal aims to support our local community and be a responsible community member. Mangoola Coal is an open cut coal operation in the Wybong area, 20 kilometres west of Muswellbrook and approximately 10 kilometres north of the township of Denman.
Community
Mangoola is committed to contributing to the environmental, social and economic development of both the local and broader communities by ensuring all stakeholders are factually informed of its activities and ensuring the environmental, social and economic impacts of its mining operations are responsibly managed. This commitment is reflected in the Mangoola Sustainable Development Policy.
Mangoola has developed a comprehensive Social and Community Engagement Guideline (MAN SD GDL 0008) to identify and understand stakeholder views and concerns. During the reporting period, this strategy coordinated consultation with the local community, regulatory authorities, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), the Aboriginal community and other interested parties as appropriate.
Health and Safety
People are the most important asset at Mangoola Coal and Glencore is committed to ensuring every person returns home safely at the end of their day. Every employee, contractor and visitor to our operation has a direct responsibility to protect themselves and the people working alongside them in every task they are required to do.
Glencore has implemented a program called SafeCoal which aims to:
- Prevent fatalities by focusing on fatal hazards
- Reduce the total recordable injury frequency rate
- Streamline sustainable development systems which will drive continual improvement

Corporate Social Involvement
Mangoola Coal has a CSI program which provides sponsorship and donations to support local organisations in the Wybong, Sandy Hollow, Denman and Muswellbrook areas. Applications can be made for funding under the CSI program by completing the MAN SD FRM 0172 Local Community Sponsorship Employee Application Form.
