About Us

Since its establishment in 1986, the Victorian Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) has promoted the rights, interests and dignity of people with disability (specifically decision-making disability such as intellectual impairment, mental illness, brain injury or dementia) living in Victoria. 

The public advocate, OPA staff and more than 600 volunteers provide a number of services, including advocacy, guardianship, investigation, research and policy publications, education and training services and volunteer programs – Community Visitor Program, Independent Third Persons Program and Corrections Independent Support Officers program.
