Who do I talk to about my power bill?
TasNetworks is not responsible for your power bill or your electricity account. Any questions that relate to your bill, electricity consumption or concessions need to be directed to your electricity retailer.
Why has my power gone out?
Although we're committed to providing reliable power to customers, 24 hours a day, unexpected events can cause the power to go out. They include:
• Storms or high winds causing power lines to clash
• Trees or foliage touching or falling onto power lines
• Lightning striking power lines
• Electrical faults
• Bushfires
• Car accidents, such as a car hitting a power pole
Whatever its cause, when an outage occurs, we work to restore power as safely and as quickly as possible.
Why do I have to call you when the power goes out? Can’t you tell that my power is out?
Our technology helps us identify when large numbers of customers are without power, but it doesn't tell us where individual outages occur. Our technology also doesn’t tell us why the power is out. Your call to us on 132 004 can provide us with more detailed information about the outage.
In some cases, our crews may need to patrol a long section of power lines to identify the cause. The information you provide helps us narrow the patrol area and can assist in restoring power sooner.
When will my power be restored?
When an outage occurs, our crews don't know how long a job will take to repair until they get on site and assess the damage. This is the case when there is widespread damage from a severe storm.
It's difficult to accurately predict when a particular customer's power will be restored - especially in the early phases of restoration, when the extent of damage is being assessed.
Why does my power sometimes go on and off momentarily?
Most distribution power lines are protected by special devices called breakers and reclosers and they work in a similar way to household circuit breakers. They'll cut off power when they detect an ongoing fault (such a fallen power line).
These devices also detect momentary faults – for example – when foliage falls on a power line, the device will detect this and turn off the power supply.
How do I get a CablePI?
To request a new or replacement device, complete a CablePI request form at www.tasnetworks.com.au or phone 132 004.
What do I do if the alarm goes off on my CablePI?
Contact TasNetworks immediately on 13 2004. Tell the operator that you have a CablePI. Report the alarm and then follow the advice and instructions provided.
How do I report a faulty streetlight in my area?
TasNetworks operates and maintains the street lighting system throughout Tasmania on behalf of councils and other government road authorities. If you notice a faulty streetlight, please report it to us by calling our faults line on 13 2004. If you can, take note of the 6-digit number on the pole to help identify it. Once we have been advised of a defective streetlight in your street, we will aim to repair it within seven business days of notification of the fault.

Am I responsible for private power poles on my property?
It is your responsibility to organise regular inspections and fix any defects of any power poles or power lines on your property. This is to ensure a reliable power supply, reduce the risk of electrocution or bushfires and keep your power lines safe.

Who do I contact to organise a connection or disconnection?
TasNetworks ’crews connect and disconnect power to customers’ properties. However, as this work is done at the request of the electricity retailer, any questions you have about connecting and disconnecting electricity to your property need to be directed to your electricity retailer.
