FAQs
What are "Run Flat Tyres"?
Some car manufacturers have started to equip their vehicles with run flat tyres, also known as mobility tyres. These tyres do as the name suggest - they are able to continue to run safely in the event of sudden or gradual deflation. When fitted with run flat tyres your vehicle can continue moving despite a loss of tyre pressure and is able to function even when there is little or no pressure.
When are tyres considered not roadworthy?
Tyres are considered to be un-roadworthy at 1.6mm minimum tread depth. In wet conditions 3.0mm or less tread means a significant loss of wet traction due to shallower grooves and channels.
How do I know how much to spend on tyres?
The old adage "you get what you pay for" could have been invented for tyres choice. Calculate the total price for your tyre purchase and divide that by the kilometres of service. This will give you the cost per kilometre. You'll quickly see that the better tyres are, the better value.
Why do your tyres & wheels need balancing?
Maintaining the tyre balance on your vehicle is critical to getting the most out of the tyres you’ve invested in. Not only does correct tyre balance ensure a smoother ride, it helps to minimise tyre wear. You can adjust your tyre pressure at your nearest petrol station. We recommend getting into the habit as quickly as possible – it could make a huge difference to your tyre care.
What is the benefit of keeping the correct tyre pressure?
Keeping the correct tyre pressure in your tyres is another important aspect of tyre care. Not only will they take longer to wear out, but they’ll also improve your handling and your fuel efficiency – all important benefits for car owners. You can adjust your tyre pressure at your nearest petrol station. We recommend getting into the habit as quickly as possible – it could make a huge difference to your tyre care.
How often should you rotate your tyres?
When was the last time you had your tyres rotated? As a general rule, you should rotate them every 5,000km to ensure you’re giving your tyres the appropriate care. By rotating your tyres, you’re helping to prevent uneven wearing, generating a long return on your tyre investment. At Tyrepower, our friendly team can organise your vehicle’s tyre rotation.
Can you clean your tyres?
Don’t forget to keep your tyres clean! Another important aspect of tyre care, not only will it keep your car looking great overall, it will also prevent the exposed sidewall rubber from cracking or checking.
How can you check your tyres?
Make sure you’re inspecting your tyres regularly to avoid any potential issues. While cleaning them is typically the best time to do this, but keep an eye out for any stoned or objects that become embedded in the tread. This is particularly important as it can potentially lead to tyre failure. If you’re concerned about your tyres, Tyrepower can help examine your tyres and give you the peace of mind you need to continue driving safely.
Where can you find the tyre size?
You can find your tyre size in your vehicle’s owner manual. The tyre size information can also be found on your tyre placard, often inside the driver's door jam. The tyre placard will state the tyre size, as well as the recommended tyre pressures. Alternatively, tyres have a code on their sidewall. As an example, the tyre size or code will be 205/65R15 95H.
