Umoona Tjutagku Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is a community controlled Aboriginal Health Service. The Health service provides primary health care services to Aboriginal people in and around Coober Pedy. Umoona Health also Auspices the Dunjiba Substance misuse Program in Oodnadatta.

Umoona Tjutagku Health Service (UTHSAC) was established in 2005 to address the specific medical needs of the Aboriginal people in Coober Pedy. The organisation has expanded steadily over the past seven and a half years to provide a comprehensive range of medical, dental and social services for our community.

The Clinic

The Clinic offers a wide range of supportive health programs, point of care activities, and the preparation of medications from scripts under a section 100 government initiative.

The Clinic is staffed by registered nurses and health professionals.

Men and women¿s health assessments, vaccinations for children and adults, pre and post natal care, diabetics, asthmatic, metal health programs are covered within the service. Allied health professionals that include, dentist, podiatrist, ophthalmologist, audiologist, support our service on regular scheduled visits along with a visiting psychologist.

Drug & Alcohol

Trained Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol workers, an AASW Social worker and an accredited mental health worker are available to help with counselling. Drug and Alcohol also provide other programs including the breakfast program, young women's program, fishing group and sewing group. The day centre holds regular activities such as painting, art and wood burning.

Other programs include self-esteem group, support group for grief, anger management group and assertiveness skills.

Environmental Health

The connection between health, housing and infrastructure is less visible in affluent Australia. This is not so for many Aboriginal communities in Australia.

Research has highlighted environmental health conditions, particularly the failure of existing housing and health infrastructure on many Aboriginal communities, as being an important contributor to the higher rates of infection, injuries and chronic disease in Aboriginal people.

Healthy For Life

Healthy for life is a program that focuses on Child and maternal health, Diabetes and other Chronic conditions and Immunisations.

Trained Aboriginal Health Workers are available to provide guidance and health care with child development, children health, immunisations child/maternal health, men's health, women's health, diabetes and management of chronic disease.
