The Verity prunes business started life as a grower owned co-operative in 1927 to pack and market prunes produced around the town of Young in south west New South Wales, Australia. These prunes came from orchards established as soldier settlement blocks after World War One to provide a home and living for returned servicemen.
Over time, as the prune industry grew, Verity adopted new methods and systems to cater to increased grower supply and the changing demands of the retail market. The 1990's saw Verity acquire two other prune processing businesses to achieve greater efficiency and competitiveness. This also saw dried figs become a new product line.
HealthPrunes are dried plums of the D'agen variety which originated in France. They are now grown in many parts of the world with California being the largest producer. Figs are also a tree fruit which is well suited to drying and are grown widely in the area around the Mediterranean sea, Greece and Turkey being major producers.
Verity Prunes are a great natural health food and should be a part of any healthy diet. They are amongst the highest rating foods for antioxidants, high in fibre, low glycaemic index, low in fat, cholesterol free, gluten free, a good source of nutrients and a tasty treat also.
AntioxidantsIn recent times antioxidants have become recognized as very important in aiding the body to scavange and remove free radicals which are linked to the development of cancer. Figs share many of the attributes of prunes and are a great source of natural calcium.
Prunes make a good addition to breakfast cereals, go well on sandwiches - try prune and pecan nuts, prune and banana or prune and cheese - and also a tasty combination with many meats, including chicken, beef, lamb and pork.
